I decide to bike the 400km to La Rochelle in three days, where I have my next Couchsurfing opportunity. The weather is showery, with a slight headwind... a good reason to put in max Kms per day.
Unfortunately, two of my tent poles snap due to uneven ground on the first night. This is not good news and I fret about what to do for the coming weeks..... new tent?/ temporary repair somehow?/ professional fix somewhere? A visit to Decathlon and a very helpful employee helps me to find replacement poles and even install them. Decathlon, I take back all the harsh words I may have uttered about you in the past. I will take at least one replacement pole section on fixture trips.
I follow the EuroVelo 1 (Atlantic Way), which is mostly forest bike paths and free of car traffic. To be honest this gets a bit monotonous after three days, although seeing fellows bikers battle through wind and rain makes me feel not alone in the struggle. A ferry crossing on the third day breaks a bit of the monotony.
