It's time to start biking and see what the Eurovelo 17 has to offer. This route follows the Rhône river all the way to the Mediterranean Sea. Usually the Eurovelo routes in north and west Europe are well sign posted, relatively direct and scenic. I use the Komoot app to navigate my way to Portugal, downloading gpx routes when appropriate. The weather forecast shows light showers all day, so I take a few shortcuts.
The day's ride is pretty relaxed with some hilly terrain, with the route mostly following the meandering path of the Rhône river. On a more day I can imagine the high mountains in this region being spectacular.
After 85km (instead of the Eurovelo's expected 130km), I reach Brens, where Emeline, my WarmShowers host, and her family are there to sympathise with my drenched kitten look. After the aforementioned warm shower, they are very patient as I communicate in my very rusty french.i set up my tent and hit the hay pretty early.
